The Earliest Recorded Sound (1860)

About The Video

This is the first sound ever recorded, by Édouard-Léon Scott de Martinville in 1860, some 17 years before Edison's cylinder recordings were developed.

Called the Phonautograph, these were designed to record sounds only and not reproduce them. The short sample is from the song "Au Clair de la Lune".
